Sigma DP1 Merrill and DP2 Merrill Cameras

Sigma creates a fine array of lenses for a wide variety of camera bodies from Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony. Their quality lenses are what made Sigma well known in the industry of digital photography. Sigma does have its own line of digital cameras and DSLRs that are a breed apart from the rest. Design wise, you would not think otherwise that their cameras are revolutionary in any way but it is what inside the camera, the sensor to be exact that makes them unique.

Sigma DP1 Merrill (featured) and the Dp2 Merrill digital cameras are not your typical point and shoot camera. At its heart is the APS-C sized FOVEON sensor that is being used by their flagship DSLR, the Sigma SD1. What makes the Foveon sensor unique in more ways than one is that it can capture stunning levels of detail and clarity in its pictures, colors are natural all the way and there seems to be that three-dimensional effect among the photos. Enthusiasts dub it the “Foveon look”, which is quite extraordinary compared to typical sensors used by other manufacturers.

We want you to be the judge when it comes to the photos this fantastic camera takes . Take a look at their special content site and navigate through their photo gallery.

Design wise and most of the features, both camera are practically the same. The only difference between the two is the aperture size and the focal length equivalent of their lenses. With such fantastic image quality, I could only hope that these camera had their own dedicated underwater camera housing.
